Whenever I hear about church leaders who experience moral failures, it sends chills up my spine. I hate to see politicians (who most people expect to fail), and business leaders fall, but the fall of church leaders is particularly troubling. Hearing about the moral failures of church leaders, I would wonder how it could happen. In College we were taught how to protect ourselves from being falsely accused of wrong-doing, along with talking about the importance of walk with God; however, I do not remember being taught that our possible downfall could spring forth from something dark inside of me. The thought of a dark side seems so sinister, but in The Dark Side Of Leadership, the authors state, â€Å"The dark side, though sounding quite†¦show more content†¦In the world we live in today, bad news spreads faster than ever. In the days of JFK he could do whatever he wanted without it being reported, today’s media will air your dirty laundry as quickly as possible. W hen I have pondered the fall of so many people, especially in the church, I have always felt the sin did not just appear, but rather it was something under the surface for many years. The authors really opened my eyes when they pointed out how childhood issues, many of which usually drive one to be a success, can become the root cause for a potential moral failure. Moral failures do not just creep up on a leader, the roots for the possibly upcoming failure run deep within our psyche (McIntosh Rima, 2007, p. 28). We should never feel as though we could not succumb to moral failure. In the beginning of chapter two, there is a statement that should cause all of us to take a moment to think about, â€Å"The sad reality is that all too often, when we are living and leading from the shadow of our dark side, danger lurks around virtually every corner, not only to us but also for the people and organizations we lead† (McIntosh Rima, 2007, p. 35). But all of this, London comments at the beginning of the third paragraph, The mysterious, far-reaching hair-line trail, the absence of sun from the sky, the tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all, made no impression on the man. Thus, the man also knows, in addition to the fact the sun will reappear, that it is fifty degrees below zero, but he does not know the meaning of this fact, it portends death for anyone who makes himself vulnerable to its ability to kill. Fifty degrees below zero was to him just precisely fifty degrees below zero. That there should be anything more to it than that was a thought that never entered his head.   During hi s journey, the man gets his feet wet as he falls through the ice into the water of a hot spring. Chopin describes the lovers’ passion within the storm, â€Å"They did not heed the crashing torrents, and the roar of the elements made her laugh as she lay in his arms. Even as the storm was intense, as was the lovers’ passion so as the storm begins to tire itself out so do the lovers. The growl of the thunder was distant and passing away. The rain beat softly on the shingles, inviting them to drowsiness and sleep. The setting of this story seems to act as a catalyst for these two individuals to look back at their past together and to relive it. Alcee and Calixta are not only trapped in the house during the storm, they almost seem forced into the bedroom, pushed into each others arms and then onto the bed. The storm is taking place during the important sexualized scene, keeping Alcee and Calixta within the house, and Bobinot and Bibi outside of it. When the storm dissipates, Alcee and Calixta must go their separate ways, seemingly much richer for their encounter. When Bobinot reenters his own home, he has no idea of the torrid encounter that just happened there. The storm serves as a plot device. Had Calixtas husband and son not been caught in a storm, Alcee and she would not have been able to have their torrid affair in Calixtas home (and in her and her husbands bed, no less). Every storm creeps upon us, hits a luminous climax, and then fades away into nothingness. Chopin accurately depicts the way that a storm can happen in a person s life. Technology can be portrayed as our twenty-first century slave (without the feeding). You can ask it to do something and it will do it for you, it is a way of improving our living conditions. This might draw you back on a present for your mum or your house bills, but which one would you rather have? As we create a new generation of gadget hungry children that live on technology, do we rely too much on it?Let’s use mobile phones as an example, one in three adults have a phone and the same with nine in ten children. When was the last time you used one? Or are you using one right now? If you are like me then you can’t be off your phone for more than two minutes.
